For several weeks it has been a common sight to see the
Mbugua kids out running laps in preparation for the annual Rock City Marathon
in Mwanza. This year a large group from
Mavuno participated. This last Saturday
after weeks of preparing the race was finally here! Everyone was awake before
sunrise and headed into town for a day of fun.
All those who attended received a bright yellow shirt with the Mavuno
Village logo to wear at the race. In
each race, the 2k, the 5K, and the half marathon, it was easy to spot those
from Mavuno! It made for a great
advertisement!
The kids ran in the 2K, which was a huge success. Everyone did well and thoroughly enjoyed
themselves. Since the 2K and 5K finished
fairly quickly, everyone had a chance to watch the half- marathoners come
in. It was exciting to watch the Tanzanian
winners come sprinting to the finish line after only a little over an hour! Everyone had fun running and cheering each
other on.
