A Wedding Reception

Not long ago we had the chance to celebrate the recent marriage of Musa and Lucy.  We held a reception for them here at Mavuno.

It gave everybody a chance to welcome Lucy into the Mavuno family, give them gifts, and enjoy a meal together.

The day ended suddenly when the skies began to pour down rain!

The rain was seen as a blessing and it was a great chance to welcome and celebrate.

Pray for Musa and Lucy as the they start their lives together.

Rainy Season

The rains have come to Mavuno. The entire place seems to have come alive. Things are looking green again.  The flowers are blooming.  Everything has new color and life to it.

Due to the rains new trees are being planted all around the property.  The Sh’tungulus and Mbuguas have planted corn and beans and their kids can be found every morning and evening guarding the little plants from the birds.

We are thankful that God has blessed us with rain and all that it brings.  “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadow.”—James 1:17

Rock City Marathon

For several weeks it has been a common sight to see the Mbugua kids out running laps in preparation for the annual Rock City Marathon in Mwanza.  This year a large group from Mavuno participated.  This last Saturday after weeks of preparing the race was finally here! Everyone was awake before sunrise and headed into town for a day of fun.  All those who attended received a bright yellow shirt with the Mavuno Village logo to wear at the race.  In each race, the 2k, the 5K, and the half marathon, it was easy to spot those from Mavuno!  It made for a great advertisement!

The kids ran in the 2K, which was a huge success.  Everyone did well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Since the 2K and 5K finished fairly quickly, everyone had a chance to watch the half- marathoners come in.  It was exciting to watch the Tanzanian winners come sprinting to the finish line after only a little over an hour!  Everyone had fun running and cheering each other on.
