Uniforms

“Miss Kyla, when will my school clothes be done?” asked Musa.

“Not for a while.”  I told him.

“Tomorrow?”

“No.”

“Monday?”

“No.”

“Tuesday?”

“I don’t know…maybe.”

Well, to the great joy of all the kids at Mavuno’s Early Learning Center the uniforms are done.  I finished sewing pants for all the kids and picked up some shirts in town the other day.  I started the project in December but ran out of cloth.  I finally got some more cloth and finished them to discover that the kids had grown since December.  How dare they!  So I had to remake several.  But they finally all have uniforms.  They are all very excited to come to school in their little matching uniforms!

"The Mongoose Ate Our Chicken"

“The mongoose ate our chicken.”
“We go to school barefoot.”
“Come visit us.”
And so it started!

learning to make homemade balls
Last fall the Early Learning Center wrote letters to a class in the States.  They had great fun writing about going to school barefoot and mongooses.  Their excitement was complete when they received letters and gifts in return.

This last week they finished writing another letter and making gifts to send back to the States.  What kind of gifts?  Homemade balls and seed bracelets.  The children had a lot of fun learning to make the balls and bracelets and learning to give.

A New Teacher

“Good morning, Teacher Milka!”  And so the school day begins at Mavuno’s Early Learning Center.  Alicia, who started the Learning Center, is leaving for the States soon.  So we are excited to say that we now have a new teacher: Milka Mbugua.  Milka taught in Kenya before joining Mavuno and is excited to be teaching again.  This time she is teaching the children of Mavuno, many of whom are her own kids!  We are so thankful that God has provided us with a new teacher for the Early Learning Center.

Bella

Bella Neema Charles was born on August 19th 2009.  Her mother was mentally ill and could not take care of her.  She joined the Forever Angels Baby Home in Mwanza on February 3rd 2011 at approximately two years old, where she stayed until joining Mavuno.  She joined the Sh’tungulu family, an on-campus family here at Mavuno, on March 28th 2013.  She was a little intimidated at first but soon warmed up to her new family and home when her new father pulled out the candy!  She now has a godly mother and father who can train her up to become a woman of God.  We are so thankful to have this addition to the Sh’tungulu family.  Please pray for her as she adjusts to her new home and family.  Also pray that her parents have wisdom raising her and showing her the love of Christ.
